Courtesy of Boca De Oro and SAUSD Arts, and a donation of books from the Makara Center For The Arts, this Little Free Library is one of 64, each representing a neighborhood in Santa Ana. Ours represents and serves Wilshire Square. Special Thanks to Madeleine Spencer, Robyn MacNair, Marta Ramirez-Rodriguez.
A Post-Hole Digger and Post-leveller make the job go much faster. We only needed one bag of concrete. A socket wrench made easy work of attaching the box to the post. Check the placement so you don't run into sewer, gas, or water lines.
The initial paint job was done to match the house, but we're home to artists and writers - so this is an early work-in-progress stage. I used Spray Glue (Super 77) and a sheet of decorative paper from Art Supply Warehouse to line the back wall inside the box. Everything else got plenty of paint and a little stain with a finish of polyurethane on it. If you have room, paint it in the shade, or inside while you have the radio or tv on - no need for sunburns before it's installed! Solar-Powered LED Strip lights were added on the inside. A small modification was done to the shelves inside to ensure the strip lights could fit snugly.
Very easy instructions to follow were included in the box, and again - I'm so glad I painted it in the shade while the concrete set up at the post. I felt in the way as the two taller guys fit the box in place and tightened the bolts in. Very easy, very fast, **very very** well made and designed work from SAUSD Arts.
